In a significant development for India’s judiciary, the Supreme Court of India regained its full sanctioned strength of 34 judges, including the Chief Justice of India (CJI), following the swearing-in ceremony of three newly appointed judges.

On Friday, Chief Justice of India B R Gavai administered the oath of office to Justices N V Anjaria, Vijay Bishnoi, and A S Chandurkar during a formal ceremony held at the Supreme Court premises in New Delhi.

These appointments come after the Supreme Court collegium, earlier in the week, recommended the elevation of the three high court judges to the apex court. Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal confirmed their appointments via an announcement on X (formerly Twitter).

The appointments were made against the existing three vacancies following the superannuation of former Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, and Justices Abhay S. Oka and Hrishikesh Roy.
